Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is Aromatherapy?

By definition Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of aromatic plant extracts; the extracts are also known as essential oils.

Is Aromatherapy safe for everyone?

When guided by a Professional Aromatherapist, Aromatherapy can be safe and effective. It is important to remember that essential oils are volatile chemical compounds and as such there is the risk for reactions including but not limited to skin and mucous membrane irritation, sensitivity, allergic reaction, contraindication with medications and or medical conditions.

Are essential oils safe to ingest?

My short answer is no. Essential oils are highly volatile and potent chemical compounds and can carry significant risk to health both in the short and long term with use of ingestion. Ingestion of essential oils should only be done under the care and guidance of a professional trained in aromatic medicine.

Is Aromatherapy a licensed and regulated profession?

At this time the field of aromatherapy is not licensed or regulated. There are professional associations that have training and exam requirements for certification.
